Is this reasonable? Can a man say to a woman, "I do all this for you and if you ever forget it, I will drop you without hesitation." Should men be more sensitive than that? Or is this boldness our right?
ReplyDeleteAre we at a point in gender-relations where a man can declare his rights to a woman without coming off like an asshole? Have we moved beyond feminism and the pendulum can swing the other way (post-post-feminism)?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. I mean, he's not saying anything unreasonable. And you can hear a sensitivity in his words -- he's not an unfeeling superman like 50 Cent likes to come off. But when you write a song about it, it starts to sound like a demand and I'm not sure the world is ready for that kind of full equality (what goes for a woman goes for a man).
It's actually not much different from what Aretha sang in Respect in 1965 though. Note that a man (Otis Redding) wrote and recorded it first (and she changed the words):
